Animal Crossing: New Horizons has finally arrived after months and months of anticipation. Fans eagerly stayed up waiting for the game to drop digitally last night and many are diving in for a full-on weekend binge.

Already, players are beginning to notice funny things about the game and many memes have already started popping up about the hilarity of Animal Crossing. It has brought a much-needed spot of brightness for many people and fans are celebrating by creating funny images and jokes perfect for anyone in the franchise to enjoy.

10 When You Don't Have Your Museum Yet

Unfortunately, unlike previous games in the franchise, you don't get to meet Blathers until at least day two -- and that's if you provide Nook what he needs to call up his old pal. While you're waiting for Blathers to set up his tent on your deserted island, you can do plenty of fishing and bug-catching to ensure you have lots to donate when he finally does show up.

It has resulted in a lot of people creating outdoor exhibits when their pockets get too full to carry any more stuff. The funny thing is, when Blathers does show up, you'll have to do this again as you can only give him 15 items.

9 Always Shake The Trees

One of the big new things in New Horizons is the introduction of resource gathering. That was part of the older games in some ways but not as big a component as it is now. You're going to be shaking a lot of trees to find branches to craft furniture, tools, and more.

But make sure you keep shaking them because you can get 7-8 branches from each tree usually! However, you'll need to be careful that you don't stir up any wasp nests or you'll get stung. On the other hand, you could also shake out money or furniture!

8 Pole Vaulting Is Fun

In New Horizons, you'll need to use a vaulting pole in the early days to get across rivers and explore your island fully. The terraforming feature isn't introduced into your gameplay until a few weeks into the game (so we've heard from reviewers).

But you can get your pole as early as day two if you hustle on day one. Blathers will give you the DIY recipe and then you can vault across the island seeking out the money rocks to your heart's content!

7 Definitely Not Just A Kids Game

There are a lot of people who erroneously believe that Animal Crossing is a franchise for children. In reality, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Thousands of adults play the games and have loved them since they were kids, too.

It's a fantastic game for all ages. That's why the above meme is so hilarious, you might expect to see a young teen playing the game and instead find a burly wrestler who is just as enthralled as a 15-year-old to see they got peaches in their town.

6 Buy A Tent, Start A Village, Live Your Life

With so much to do in Animal Crossing,  it is easy to get overwhelmed and wonder where to begin. The above meme is a riff on the popular Hannibal Burress meme that jokes his iconic "get yourself together" monologue.

In this version, it is Tom Nook saying the motivational speech about all the fantastic things you can do while living on the island. Maybe you just want to listen to some K.K. Slider or pick fruit. The whole island is yours to do with what you please.

5 Cyd Has A Smug Aura

Cyd is one of several new residents introduced into New Horizons. He's a red elephant that has a surprisingly smug aura, as the above image suggests. This meme is hilarious, especially if you're a fan of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and you remember the scene this is from.

You can imagine Frank actually talking about a photo of Cyd the elephant. To be fair, he has a point. Cyd does have a sly and mischievous look that makes you wonder what secret he's hiding.

4 Gulliver Catches The Virus

If you're a long time player of Animal Crossing then you're familiar with Gulliver. He's a seagull who periodically washes up on the shore and who will usually give you a gift of some kind once you talk to him and help him get his bearings.

This joke tweet makes it sound like Gulliver wound up catching the deadly COVID-19 virus and as a result, potentially infected the entire island resulting in the game being delayed. Luckily, it's just a bit of dark comedy and not actually the case in the gaming world.

3 The Frog Obsession

If you are at all familiar with the Animal Crossing fandom and the hype surrounding New Horizons over the last few months, then you have undoubtedly seen your fair share of froggy chair memes.

Now the joke is that the game release date happened to coincide with World Frog Day. It makes it seem like maybe someone at Nintendo seriously loves frogs and is doing what they can to show their affection in any way that they can.

2 Breaking A Fishing Rod Is A Good Thing

This adorable meme uses How to Train Your Dragon as its format and it works surprisingly well. In New Horizons,  you will break your fair share of flimsy tools, especially in the beginning. You might be shocked when you do, but not to worry!

The Nook Mileage Program considers breaking your tools a good thing! It means you're getting the full potential out of them and using them until they reach their limit. That means you get some points for your trouble so it's not the end of the world.

Like we mentioned above, you're going to be crafting a lot of flimsy tools while playing this game, you might as well get used to it.

The good news is, they're pretty easy to make, only requiring a few tree branches or stones to throw together. Be prepared to make tons of them but also realize that better tools will be available to unlock later in the game!
